The Southerner theater Production Playwriter: Shazly Farah, Director: Ashraf Al-Noubi Scenographer: Dalia Farah The play was presented within the activities of the Festival of Theater ensembles in the West and Central Delta Region in Egypt during, 11-17 February 2015. The performance includes a set of singing sketches titled (sad - I want to fly in the sky - lost). Plot The events of the play revolve around a well-educated young man in his late thirties, an Upper Egyptian immigrant in a European community. During the nights of exile, he begins a soliloquy, and memories take him back to his childhood village, where he witnessed the lives of his mother’s friends, his four aunts and their suffering because of the inherited traditions that killed their dreams. the play begins with "The weaver" who appears as the driver of events as he twists the ropes of fate, and a ten-year-old boy (the young man in his childhood) emerges from among the ropes' folds. Then "the weaver" throws four ropes of fiber in front of the door of a grave or a womb.. Hands extend from inside the grave while they are trying to reach out for salvation, escape, or birth. The weaver pulls the ropes, and four women come out while they are tied with ropes. The memories of the young man follow the tragedies of his four aunts: "I was a witness to their torture...all my aunts...even all the women of our village...even all the women of the south had their own torments."
